The Day That We Ate Chicago

Downtown from the top of the John Hancock Building!

Yesterday we spent the whole day in downtown Chicago eating possibly the most unhealthy (but delicious) food the city has to offer. After getting questioned as to whether or not we were in high school, we started our day eating as soon as we got off the noon train at Al’s Number One Beef. We then proceeded to put a dent in those calories by walking to the John Hancock Building. We decided to not spend the $18 for access to the observatory and went to the lounge one floor down instead and spent $6 on a drink each, while still enjoying the most amazing view.

We walked to Navy Pier after a series of failed photographs at the top of the John Hancock (thank you old British woman). After a wonderful couple offered us a free ticket to the ferris wheel, we got on and pretty sure we sent pictures to everyone we know, or least are friends with on Snapchat (we’re aiming to be everyone’s top Snapchat friend after this trip).

After this (surprise!) more walking to Millennium Park. The weather was beautiful, sunny and 68 so it was perfect for walking everywhere. We arrived at the Bean and took a plethora of selfies, obvi. After getting a snack at Garrett’s Popcorn, we attempted to gain access to the Art Institute of Chicago, but it is not an unemployed post-grad’s friend; we ate in the park next to it instead. We then decided to eat more (weird concept for the two of us) and walked a long time back to Gino’s East for deep dish pizza that we took to go and ate back at Katie’s grandmother’s house.

We finished this marathon day at Rainbow Cone, a beloved South Side ice cream institution, where we got shouted at for stranger danger by a small girl when we tried to share her table. Then it’s a little fuzzy but we may have passed out from a medical condition known as food coma. Basically it was a great day for us and now we’re off to Carlton College to see Nancy’s friend Molly and the Mall of America to eat more. Duh. Image
